Europe looks at food colors
At the request of the EU (European Union) following a study from the University of Southampton from 2007 which had established a correlation between certain mixtures of dyes with the preservative sodium benzoate and the hyperactivity in children , the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has published its findings.
EFSA reviews the ADI (acceptable daily intake for a living) for certain artificial food colors:
- - Quinoline Yellow (E104)
- - Yellow (E110)
- - Ponceau 4R (E124),
At the same time, it indicates that with the currently available data for the three other dyes ADI will not be changed:
- - Tartrazine (E102)
- - Azorubine / Carmoisine (E122)
- - Allura Red AC (E129).
Because only children who consume large amounts of food and beverages containing Azorubine / Carmoisine or Allura Red AC could exceed the ADI established for these dyes (one would like to know what this means in terms of population) .
These dyes are used including: soft drinks, baked goods and desserts, sweets etc ...
They concluded that only one of the dyes: tartrazine (E102) was likely to cause intolerance. For others, the items in their possession do not allow them to draw firm conclusions (basically, they do not know)
What is EFSA?
It's an independent who has only advisory powers to the EU
Have they studied the impact of dye mixtures?
No, because for them there are too many possible combinations.
What conclusions can I get from:
Well with all that we advance, because if we summarize, no changes to expect and I do not doubt that the EU will stick to the opinion of EFSA (at best). When is a serious study of the dyes carried out independently of transformers! Not that EFSA is not independent, but what other ways has t 'it apart from the collection of data that we are willing to give their analysis and to deliver an opinion.
The "Southampton study" Was not that reliable EFSA says it does not prove a cause and effect on behavior.
I think you greatly underestimate the impact dyes and their mixtures on the body and it's time that the authorities take the issue seriously, because the dyes are present everywhere, then perform through- We study a large scale not only on each dye, but also mixtures of dyes.

Governments do not want to get wet too serious in studies that would bind their credibility with companies manufacturers of all products with chemical additives. The U "S" A "the FDA rely on its members within large multinationals that have taken undercover to better exercise their control.
